MSU ANR Beekeeping Program
ANR stands for Agricultural and Natural Resources Week. Almost always held in March, during the Spring Break week , it happens on the campus of Michigan State University. The event brings outstanding experts to focus on issues related to Michigan's agriculture and natural resources. The event, sponsored by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, is a unique chance to interact with leaders in agriculture and natural resources for information not readily available elsewhere.
The ANR Week Beekeeping Program has been as old as ANR week itself. We usually have 180-220 people from all over the state to come over to learn what is new honey bee research, pest and disease control, or simply to chat and meet other beekeepers. Funded by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Department of Entomology, the organizer (prior to 1998, Prof. Roger Hoopingarner, since 1998, Prof. Zachary Huang) usually invites two honey bee experts from other state agencies or universities to speak on bee issues. Other talks are given by local scientists, students, or beekeepers to address important findings or issues on bees.
